Itinerary: Amman - Petra - Amman

November 23rd, 2005, 8:00 pm

Travel down the Desert Road to Wadi Mousa outside “the rose - red city” of Petra which from 300 BC. was inhabited by Nabateans. Take a horse ride through the dramatic “ciq” or canyon. See the Treasury, carved in the pink stone, and continue past the Roman theatre, the Corinthian Tomb and Palace Tomb to the Roman road. If time permits, climb up to the High Place or the Deir or Monastery. Return via the desert highway to your hotel in Amman

Ahh, Petra. How I envy you now. I think Petra would be more interesting to go and see than the Sphinx and Pyramids. :/

Not yet, probably. The areas visited in Jordan are more interesting from a historical and archaeological standpoint than from a religious one; there isn’t that much interesting Biblical history that takes place in Jordan. Wait till they get to Israel itself, though. The Via Dolorosa can be quite overwhelming… but perhaps not in the way you’d expect.

    Happy Thanksgiving

Just popping off a quick “Happy Thanksgiving” to all my American readers, whoever you may be.

And Beth darling, I miss you and am intensely jealous that you are off enjoying yourself in Israel…
