Free Internet at the waiting room!

Guess which moron took the wrong passport to the airport?

Guess whose parents had to drive home and back to fetch the correct passport?

*blush*

Hokay I have to go be a good girl and rejoin the group so this is really really really really the last post til 3rd July.

Really really!

:D

Ta!

As many of you may know (and the less-informed of you may not), I’m leaving in about eight hours time for Yunnan, China for a Singapore Youth For Christ organized missions trip to the youth of Yunnan.

We’re going to be performing a cappella, as well as a dance, and holding a camp for the Christian youth there – and more.

Yeah it’s a really huge step of faith for me because, haha, Beth and Chinese don’t really mix too well as ten years of exam results have proven. I’m in charge of devotion and will be arranging for devotions during the practices as well as during the camp in Yunnan. This is alongside singing and performing songs, skits and dances with my a cappella mates – AND I have a solo to sing – so I’m ultra super-duper stressed out by this trip – boy is this whole thing a real challenge.

Still, I’m glad to be challenged because if I could do all this sitting in my armchair at home then I wouldn’t really be putting any effort into it would I? :) So I’m off to China to spread the love and word of God and hope that I manage to help sow some seeds with our performances and testimonies.

It would really help if you guys could keep me in prayer especially for the next ten days as I go through this missions trip!! Boy am I going to need your prayer and support.

The group prayer letter is attached below. You don’t have to pray for all my group members individually, but simply as a group. Of course if you have the time and the inclination, go ahead and pray for all our individual requests :)

If any of you want to contribute financially to the trip, it would also be greatly, greatly, greatly appreciated. I’ve had trouble raising enough for my own requirement, so if any of you would like to contribute, even the smallest amount would be something. Let me know yea?

Thanks so much guys. I’ll update you all again when I return 3rd July.

xoxo

God, I feel like hell tonight
Tears of rage I cannot fight
I’d be the last to help you understand
Are you strong enough to be my man?

Nothing’s true and nothing’s right
So let me be alone tonight
Cause you can’t change the way I am
Are you strong enough to be my man?

Lie to me
I promise I’ll believe
Lie to me
But please don’t leave

I have a face I cannot show
I make the rules up as I go
Just try and love me if you can
Are you strong enough to be my man?

When I’ve shown you that I just don’t care
When I’m throwing punches in the air
When I’m broken down and I can’t stand
Will you be man enough to be my man?

Lie to me
I promise I’ll believe
Lie to me
But please don’t leave

  1. Receiving an unexpected compliment or declaration of affection
  2. Having a craving for something – jasmine milk tea, sashimi, fried chicken – and being able to satisfy it that same day
  3. Lying on the beach in a bikini soaking up the sun
  4. Lunch or dinner with good friends with good conversation
  5. When Sasha jumps onto my bed when I’m about to fall asleep, climbs over my body and plonks herself down right in the crook of my arm, resting her head on my shoulder and falling asleep. Fuzzy happy feeling
  6. New earrings/necklaces/clothes (Mango sale today!)
  7. A manicure :P
  8. Planning short trips around the region to Phuket, Bangkok, etc
  9. Plugging into my iPod when I’m outside and just soaking up my music
  10. A hug

I’m leaving on Friday morning 8.15am and it’s finally sinking in.

Gradually I’m starting to realize that I did make the right choice to go for this – and I really hope I grow from it. I’m thankful for a great team and the solid support that comes from that quarter. Now I just need to get over my fear of Chinese, heh.

Ten day hiatus from this blog til 3rd July. I’ll be back with plenty of photos and things to say, I’m sure.

Love you all.

Let’s talk about what Beth did today, shall we?

This morning was a disaster. Woke up on time, got ready on time, we started waiting for a cab at 8.30am to get to university at 9am for 9.30 subject registration. So we wait for a cab.

In the rain.

During peak hour.

Needless to say all three of us fail to either book or flag down any cab until 9am, when I miraculously manage to hail one.

Halfway to Barbie’s house, Bin jumps ship and decides to stay home to do subject registration.

After picking Barbie up, we finally decide to give up N*TU as well and we head back to my place. In the same cab.

Finally return home at 9.25am, set up my laptop for Barbie, discover that…Joel’s computer doesn’t have IE (he runs on LINUX) and that school registration system only loads on IE.

I begin frothing at the mouth and clawing vainly at the computer screen.

Joel’s magic fingers load Windows and IE and I get onto the system at…9.31am.

All subject slots are gone.

I start calling people in horror and extreme distress. Find out that only CS*401 has been released. Return to feverishly loading and reloading page. Fingers begin to blister. I wear out the print on the F5 key. I swear I hear the STARS planner snigger at me.

Barbie calls out that Mish has gotten CS*438! I stare at the screen. Vacancy: 0, ad infinitum.

No room in the inn for me.

People start dropping subjects to grab other openings. I steal their dropped slots. I begin to snigger back at STARS.

Barbie, Bin and I manage to sync CS*401 tutorials. I start to feel much better.

I manage to secure my desired timetable. Sweat drips from my fevered brow. Another year, another fastest-fingers-first conquered.

Joel: Boy, and I thought N*US system sucked.

I weep gently in response.

So the rest of the morning is spent placidly reading my book while KX surfs the Net, followed by a satisfying Ya Kun lunch and a blissful afternoon trotting around Orchard Road. I cackle long and loud at strangers in office wear and gloat that I can go shopping at 3pm in the afternoon. Mwahahaha! Take that, office people!

Discover to my surprise that Mango is closed – preparation for their annual sale!  I rub my hands together and giggle stupidly to myself because I will be able to shop on Thursday morning when everyone else has to go to work. Did I already laugh evilly? Yes? Well here it is again anyway! MWAHAHAHA!

So perhaps it was a good thing I didn’t get paid earlier; I hope the red dress is on sale.

Spend the rest of the afternoon-evening with Johanna just walking around Orchard and buying up as many pairs of earrings as I can. As well as three necklaces (all 50% off!), a white filigree belt, pretty bra straps, and some costume jewelry for the YFC skit.

I had to make up for the rotten start to the morning somehow, didn’t I? :P

Tried on this dress at Forever*21 just because I liked the butterfly belt buckle:

Eventually vetoed it because I have too many tube dresses and anyway, I’m saving my dress money for the red Mango dress *beams* innit pretty! Innit!

Off to bed now. Meeting Bin and KX for lunch tomorrow :)

[3 bends in the road]

Every morning I spend catching up on World Cup games and twiddling with my fantasy football team.

My team’s going to languish while I’m in China :(

Not performing fantastically but I’m up to 107 points while the topmost team has scored 284.  That’s not too bad, eh?

I’m only awake at this ungodly hour blogging this uninspired post because I have to be bloody back in NTU at 9am to do subject registration.  I’m popeyed and drooling and possibly brain damaged from waking up this early after a late night.

Gyarrrrh.  Braaaaaiiiins.

Lish, Jean and I went out on Friday after we finished work for the LAST TIME :D

And we went window shopping! None of us bought anything except for Jean who bought a necklace she’s been lusting after for awhile now, teehee.

It’s called being broke self-control!

We tried on hats! Lish is going for the Russian samovar look and I’m going for some lil’ ol’ country style.

And we went to Crystal Jade for dinner where we waited almost 45 minutes first for the table, then another 20 mins for food, because Jean was craving her pork liver congee which turned out disappointing! Aargh!

Noodles weren’t that great either. Oh well. Maybe it was a bad day for Crystal Jade.

We went to Mango to try on clothes!

I think I’m in love with this dress. Should I buy it?

It’s $125. But really really beautiful aargh.

Quick poll! Do I look good in it and should I buy it when my three-month paycheck comes in??

Just came back from Lihao’s wedding.

Me: Eh, Jo is very pretty.
Shyam: Yeah she is!
Me: I want to take her home and put her on my wall!
Shyam: …

A group of guys from choir sang ‘Testify to Love’ by Avalon for the couple and…well, that song’s got a lot of happy and not-so-happy memories tied up in it for me.  Sniff.

I love weddings *sappy smile*
