I am Singaporean meme - the National Day version
August 9th, 2006 by jadeite
Yes, I am Singaporean.
I know because I am blogging this while watching the National Day Parade - the one show I never fail to watch every single year.
I have watched the NDP live at the stadium at least four times. I may be a cynic 364 days a year, but every 9th of August I’m a crazy patriot who tears when she sees the dear Minister*Mentor singing the national anthem.
I am Singaporean, because when I am invited to a party where the dress code is all-white, my first reaction is, “What, PAP organize one ah?”
I know I’m Singaporean because I know almost all the words to almost all the national songs (except all the newfangled ones). Including Munneru Valibaa.
And I have them in mp3 form on my computer, and I play through them every few weeks just to make myself feel happy.
I’m Singaporean because I may bitch from hell to high heaven about the Government, but I will never fail to admit that MM*Lee is a brilliant, brilliant man.
I am Singaporean, because the pledge and the national anthem were just played on NDP on TV, and I stood up to recite the pledge and sing the anthem - and I had goosebumps all throughout.
I’m Singaporean because I love Singapore - and not just on National Day.
But I still cringe when I hear the National Day DJs remix “Stand Up For Singapore” with Crazy Frog.
I wish I had a flag to hang out my window.
Get your mother to mail one to you!!
Aiyoh, I will have to pay import duty on it! £50 or therabouts. Not worth it.
What?! For a flag? Can’t it just be folded up and mailed in a little envelope?
