Granny remedies

Monday, November 20th, 2006

Woke up with a horrible throat and cough and so now I’m drinking delicious hot Coke with lemon and honey to soothe it.  And you know…I don’t know if it’s psychosomatic but it actually works.  I’m not sure what’s the deal with hot Coca-Cola but it really does make the throat feel better.  Hot Coke with ginger tastes fabulous and soothes the throat immensely too.

A bit dubious though cuz I mean, Coke?  Shyam?  tscd?  Any thoughts?  Why does hot Coke make my throat feel better?

On the way to Shaun and Leanne’s wedding…my pretty dress cost me about $12 from Bangkok :D

Wedding kicked off with a beautiful beautiful hymn sung by some choristers from the ACJC alumni choir.

And there the groom stands at the altar, watching his friends sing, waiting for his bride, in a shaft of sunlight. I wonder if the light was intentional?

Leanne looking gorgeous in her very pretty gown, walking down the aisle with her father. I teared like crazy when the father looked down at her hand in his, and after about a second’s hesitation carefully and reluctantly put her hand into Shaun’s then stepped back. That was just so sad and sweet :/

That’s my dad in the background right after he said, “I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride.” I think it’s such an amazing thing to be able to solemnize the wedding of someone close to your family. Lucky Dad. He says he wants to walk me down the aisle and then solemnize my wedding. Might be a little confusing :/

Signing the wedding cert.

Bing and I took the extremely sweet mini bouquets that were tacked onto the sides of the pews. So pretty! And they matched our dresses. Hurhur.

Went to support Fu for his catwalk thing at Taka Square! Yes, I carried those flowers around the whole day. Hurhur. Finally threw them away at night when they started dying on me :( Kept the ribbons though, they were just too pretty. Tied them onto my handbag.

And that’s me all white and virginal this morning. Hurhur. Finally wore my new pretty white dress to church along with new champagne-colored heels and ribboned handbag. Felt nice to be so girly for once.

Went to Tekka market for lunch and picked up ingredients for dinner. I made a nice batch of fried noodles with fish-cake, beef mince, bean sprouts and choy sum. This is the chillified version with chilli padi and regular chillis all fried together. Not bad for a first attempt I think :D

This is the not-so-spicy version. Not as colorful but doesn’t burn the tongue. :)

Photos, out!

Parents

Saturday, November 18th, 2006

Mom: That day I was bringing ACS Barker boys around for the Civic District trail, and they’d closed off Cavenagh Bridge for George Bush to visit the Asian Civilisation Museum.  So I had to sit the boys down at the mouth of the bridge, you know, where the sculpture of the boys jumping into the river is?

Me: Ooh, I love that sculpture.  It’s so pretty.

Mom: Yeah, me too.  So anyway they’re sitting down looking at the sculpture of the naked boys, and you know what’s at their eye level, right.

Me: HOHO.  KUKU JIAOS!

Mom: Yeah!  And they just kept sniggering and laughing behind their hands!  So I looked at them levelly and I said, what, you all don’t have meh?

Dad: Did you know George Bush used to be Presbyterian?

Me: *puzzled* What?  Bush?  Presbyterian?  Used to be?  Huh?

Dad: Yes.  But now he’s a Methodist.

Me: Huh??  Why?

Dad: Because he couldn’t stand the Presbyterian logo.

Me: What?  The burning…oh.  OH.  OH DAD THAT IS SO LAME.

Dad: *busts out laughing*

Note: The logo for Presbyterians is the burning bush.  I know, I know.  Terrible joke.

Reprisal: I’m that girl

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

Reprising this post I wrote about a year back, just because someone made a reference to it today, saying that she learned more about me in this one post than she’s known from our past four years of friendship.

Mmf.

Here goes, then.

I’m the girl you once loved.

I’m the girl who teases you for crying at the movies, while hiding my own tears from you. I’m the girl who scoffs at you for being so naive, but who privately wonders what it would be like if I’d lived a life that could have kept me as innocent as you are.

I’m the girl who doesn’t learn.

I’m the girl who takes everything personally, and shouldn’t.

I’m the girl you said was the most beautiful woman in the world. I’m the girl who never believed you, especially when you dumped me for someone else.

I’m that girl.

I’m the girl who’s been there, done that.

I’m the girl who fantasizes about being tied up, but doesn’t actually want to be, because sometimes fantasy is more fun than reality.

I’m the girl whose heart you never had, because I’m the girl you loved, and you’re the man I hated. I let you think I loved you, but really I’m the girl who despised you, and you’re the man who will never know.

I’m the girl who hurt you because someone else hurt me.

I’m the girl who’s sorry.

I’m the girl who dances in the rain.

I’m the girl who held your hair while you threw up.

I’m the girl who told you that I was happy to be by your side, but what I really wanted to do was get away from you and your petty insecurities and nasty tantrums. I’m the girl who lied to you over and over again to keep you happy. I’m the girl who left you because I finally stopped lying to myself.

I’m the girl whose hand you hold. I’m the girl whose lips you kiss.

I’m the girl who still loves teddybears and lace, sunshine flowers and pretty things. The girl who wants to dance on a beach in the moonlight with the man I love. The girl who’s been a sucker for heartbreak all her life, but who’s still determined to find love.

I’m that girl.

I’m the girl who sings in the bathroom.

I’m the girl who expected less, but got so much more.

I’m the girl who wants lilies and white ribbons at my wedding. I’m the girl who believes in true love, in the sanctity of marriage, in blessings. I’m the girl who wants to grow old with you.

If that’s who I am, then who are you?

CS401 is over!  Our first question was to write a dialogue between the ghosts of a certain opposition politician and a certain powerful PAP person when they meet in the afterlife.

You gotta love Cenite.

‘我是幸福的’ by 梁静茹

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

I remember bursting into tears on Ah Fu’s shoulder when 梁静茹 sang this at the concert we went to in first year. This song always makes me feel a little achy-breaky inside :)

Two and a half hours to media law paper.

OMG TWO AND A HALF HOURS WHAT AM I DOING BLOGGING.

*weeps*

Registering

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

I’ve installed a new plugin for my blog called ProtectContent. Basically, I might want to put in a few extra paragraphs in a blog post that I don’t necessarily want everyone to read.

So if you want to be able to read full blog posts, you’re going to have to register as a blog reader. I’ll place protected posts in the category ‘Unmentionables’ so you will know if you have to login to read full posts; otherwise you won’t have to login.

Sad to say I won’t be authorizing everyone to register as a blog reader; otherwise what’s the point, right? :P I apologize in advance if I don’t accept you as a registrant. Some things are just meant to be private eh.

In order to register, leave a comment on this post with your email and your requested nick. I’ll email you back with your password. Once you’re registered and you log in, you’ll be able to see the hidden text in this post.

Threadless $10 spree

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

Threadless is having a 30-day holiday sale. Every day for the next 28 days they will be adding new shirt designs to the site, and most of them are going for US$10. Anybody want to order tees? I have five orders waiting and won’t process them until I get at least another five; last night I already got off one order for 10 shirts.

Plus shipping, each shirt will cost around S$18.90 for a complete order of 10 shirts. The more shirts ordered, the cheaper the shipping, so let me know if you want to order anything. Email me with this format:

Name:
Email:
Mobile:
Total number of shirts:

Shirt name:
Size:
Quantity:
URL of that shirt:

Repeat the last four items for as many shirts as you want. Different sizes for the same design should be listed as a separate order. Eg:

Shirt name: I Hate Japanese Food
Size: M
Quantity: 1
URL of that shirt: http://www.threadless.com/product/654/I_Hate_Japanese_Food

Shirt name: I Hate Japanese Food
Size: L
Quantity: 2
URL of that shirt: http://www.threadless.com/product/654/I_Hate_Japanese_Food

As a size guide, I fit a girly size S comfortably.

Let me know ASAP. I might be getting in multiple orders because stocks are running fast. I will also only take orders from people whom I know personally because I will be paying for these first out of my own pocket and I’m not going to run the risk of dead buyers.

:D

Threadless for teh win!
