Peek Chures

Crazy lot of photos coming up!

- Fantastic Four/mushroom soup/mahjong party pictures
- Bangkok trip photos
- School’s 50th anniversary photos
- NDP preview photos

:D

Had a party thing at my house awhile ago where we ended up watching Fantastic Four with people lounging in various spots around my cosy happy room - Ah Fu, Kaixin, Kerri, Jean and Alexis!

Kerri was greatly taken with my kitchen - “OMG! YOU HAVE SO MANY SPICES IN YOUR FRIDGE!” - and treated us all by whipping up a batch of homemade mushroom soup. Droolz.

Kerri wields a mean wooden spoon.

While the rest of us indulged in mahjong. Huat ah!

And took time out between rounds to partake of some delicious soup. I luvz mah Kerri.

If you all didn’t realize by now, I took an utterly impromptu trip to Bangkok last weekend. Somebody once said I should live for the moment, so I did, and managed to convince Evon and Mish to do the same :D

Because I had training that week, the girls flew in one day before me. First time flying by myself, on reliable ol’ Tiger Airways. Next time though, I think I might fly JetStar. Seems cheaper, plus it’s not at Budget Terminal, and they have a higher baggage limit, which is essential when taking shopping trips out.

My first night there, we hit Khao San and met Johnny Depp! :D Okay fine, we met a Thai guy who really looks like him.

Having pets of our own we also visited Chatuchak’s pet section to pick up bling accessories for our babies. Sash now has a red leather collar with a crystal-encrusted buckle - however, she’s managed to knock out half the crystals in two days. Bleh.

Hot thirsty kittens.

Evon got her fortune told at Suan Lom night market for only 200 baht!

My school held their 50th anniversary celebrations on Friday. It’s a great school for art - so many of my students have created bloody gorgeous pieces - and they often have art exhibitions and also annual trips to the great art countries like France and Italy. These kids have been to the Louvre, the Guggenheims, etc. Jealousy.

This was one of my favorite on sale that day. $450 :( Cheap for art, but expensive for a poor trainee teacher. Simple yet appeals to me.

This was my other favorite, and more affordable at $150 (smaller size) but was snapped up by the artist’s mother. Grumble. Couldn’t the artist have painted one for Mommy for free and let me buy this one?!

Art geniuses, all of them. So lovely.

Me and some of my fellow trainee teachers.

Korkor Shaun got me tickets to the NDP preview on Saturday evening! He and Yu Hsien are heavily involved in NDP this year. I have a ridiculous soft spot for the NDP. I love it. It makes me happy :P

Brand new location on the Marina Bay this year. Pity about the construction in the background; it’s a constant reminder of the IR I suppose. Singapore office skyline on the right, fake London Eye on the left, stage in the middle (Yu Hsien’s clean lines design; the theme was water).

One of my NDP highlights - flag fly-past as we belt out the National Anthem.

Fighter jets taking off into the sky in the marijuana leaf formation, hurhur.

Aaaah soldiers shooting civilians!

Because we were on the bay, SAF took advantage to show off water maneuvers. I can tell you, they were bloody impressive and damn sexy. The boats sat very low in the water, executed perfect 360 degree turns in what was practically a two-meter space and this thing called the donut maneuver designed to surround boats in the water, like pirates or other shippy things. Damn sexy. Machines can be such a turn-on! (And then yesterday I watched Transformers, so I’m really, really into hot hardware right now; I thought The Fast and the Furious was sexy, but Transformers transcends that.)

“I designed that,” Yu Hsien said proudly. “Uh…can you tell what it is?”

I squinted at it. “A…snail?”

“It’s the MOON. On a LEAF. Doesn’t it look like the moon on a leaf?”

“Now that you mention it. I suppose it does. Oh yeah, oh yeah, okay, it’s like a maple leaf scrunched up.”

“It’s supposed to represent the hopes and dreams of Singapore.”

“A moon on a leaf.”

“Yes.”

“O-kay.”

Finale!

And some random kitty photos.

I bathed Sasha. She thinks she does a better job of drying herself than I can, and the hairdryer is her mortal enemy. She’s since forgiven me for locking her into the bathroom and washing her with horrible, horrible water, but not before placing scratches on me in various locations on my body.

Sasha thinks I should lick my wounds but I can’t explain to her that the joints in my body aren’t quite like hers. I highly doubt my tongue can reach my ribs.

See, I can’t do that.

And as if she knows I’m talking about her, she’s decided to climb on my table and demand some attention for me, so I’m off to go cuddle my kitty.

:)

Photos out!
